Drawn from Leland's "Aradia or Gospel of the Witches," Hohman's "Pow-Wows," Lady Wilde's "Ancient Legends, Mystic Charms, and Superstitions of Ireland" and other classic traditional sources , every word in The Samhain Song Press Ultimate Grimoire And Spellbook Of Real Ancient Witchcraft was penned half a century or more before Gerald Gardner's 1950's release of "Witchcraft Today," the book that is credited with having launched the modern Wiccan tradition. This is a true "pre-Wiccan" witch's spell book filled with clear instructions for making magick happen, for cursing and curing, for binding a lover, for recovering stolen objects, for conjuring prophetic dreams - every imaginable application of the supernatural arts. It is at once a practical guide to wielding magick the way our ancient ancestors understood it, and a mesmerizing window into their "Most Un-Fluffy" true beliefs and way of life.

Haven't really had the time to go all the way through the book, but the things I have looked at are pretty cool. It seems most of the spells are Christian-based, and others are quite "icky" in the ingredients necessary for the spells: bits of human flesh, animals, etc. This is NOT a book of Wiccan magick...it is NOT a fluffy bunny book. This book is also NOT necessarily a practical manual of Witchcraft, (considering some of the spell's ingredients) but it is a very interesting look at the way The Craft was practiced in the Old Days.Product details

The Samhain Song Press Ultimate Grimoire and Spellbook of Real Ancient Witchcraft Ancient And Reliable Sources 9781365992575 Books Reviews
This book is filled with typos and grammar errors. Because of these errors, I find it very difficult to take seriously. Who was the editor? Did the author have an editor?
The Samhain Song Press Ultimate Grimoire And Spellbook Of Real Ancient Witchcraft has one of those sensationalistic titles they put on Wicca books like flying ointment to send them sailing off the bookstore shelves, but this one actually lives up to both the title and the hype in the "product description" on this page. This huge book (over 400 pages!), compiled from a variety of classic sources (nothing newer than the late 1800's or so, predating Gerald Gardner's invention of "Wicca" by more than 50 years) begins with this promise from the editor
"This is a true spell book filled with clear instructions for making magick happen, for cursing and curing, for binding a lover, for recovering stolen objects and for punishing the thief, for conjuring prophetic dreams, and every other imaginable application of the supernatural arts. This is a book of real ancient witchcraft. It is at once a practical guide to wielding magick the way our ancient ancestors understood it, and a mesmerizing window granting us an accurate vision of their times and way of life."
Followed by this warning
"Please be aware that much real ancient witchcraft was, to put it frankly, quite grotesque. Some spells in this volume call for the flesh of human corpses or the body parts of animals. Any 21st century magick user worth his or her salt, and with a copy of any "Wicca-101" table of correspondences in hand, ought to be able to dream up a dozen non-lethal, safe and legal substitutions for any such spell ingredient..."
Sounds like hype, but then the first chapter, entitled "The Fatal Love-Charm" begins thus
"A POTENT [all caps in the original] love-charm used by women is a piece of skin taken from the arm of a corpse and tied on the person while sleeping whose love is sought..."
And from there, the race is on, becoming at times a "grim grimoire" indeed! Every page of this book is like bitterly-delicious dark chocolate, using real (and often sinister) folktales, superstitions and late 19th Century ethnological research to open a window onto the true magickal beliefs and lives of our ancient pagan ancestors - and you won't find much "an' it harm none" or "blessed be" in the mix. If you are one of the modern neo-pagans still debating the difference between being a "witch" and a "Wiccan," this book will answer all of your questions regarding "Real Ancient Witchcraft," just as the "sensational" title implies. You're free to wear whichever label most appeals to your personal sensibilities, of course, but having read The Samhain Song Press Ultimate Grimoire And Spellbook Of Real Ancient Witchcraft, you will at least be making your choice with your illusions dispelled that the two terms might be even vaguely synonymous.
Far from it!
I say, witches unite! Fluffy Bunny Wiccans beware!
Now, where did I put that corpse-skin...
